North Country Council is a 501(c) 4 organization and serves as the regional planning commission for northern New Hampshire and provides services in the areas of community and regional planning, transportation planning, natural resource planning and economic and community development planning and grant writing.
The purpose of regional planning commissions is to promote coordinated development through the preparation of comprehensive plans and studies. The Council also serves as the collective voice for its constituent towns in their dealings with state and federal agencies by representing and protecting regional interests.
Community Planning
The Council provides planning assistance to our member towns by providing technical assistance to planning boards and advice on updating master plans, zoning ordinances, subdivision and site plan regulations. The Council serves as the region's planning commission under RSA 36:45-53. We hope to provide communities with viable recommendations for future growth and development and continue our leadership role by becoming more proactive in assisting communities with their needs.
Economic Development
North Country Council is a unique Regional Planning Commission because it is the only planning commission in New Hampshire that is also an Economic Development District formally designated in 1975 by the United States Department of Commerce, Economic Development Administration. As such we provide economic development planning services to our communities in the form of planning and analysis, project development, grant writing and administration of federal and state grants, conduct feasibility studies, economic development research and marketing research for the North Country.
